Everyday, I start thinking more and more about that so called Papoose advance CD, and the more I think about it, the more I think it was put together by some random guy in their mothers basement. Whatever the case may be, official or unofficial, you can throw that away, because this mixtape here is official, and hot. CRAZY new lyrics. It's labeled as "The Best of Papoose", but there are some new tracks featuring Prodigy, Sonja Blade, and others. Anyway, lets get it:
INTRO
Apparently, Kay Slay is mad at all these DVD mixtape guys.
BORN IN NYC
This is the one off of the last Papoose CD I reviewed with the James Brown sample. Sounds good, rippin this one up. Excellent start.
LICENSE TO KILL
This is the best song on this mixtape period. This sounds good.....the beat sounds old school, but you can hear voices saying "Green Lantern" in the background, and they aren't DJ voices. But that could be the case, because GL does production too now. At any rate, this track is straight fire. You gotta listen closely to the lyricism here. Incredible. Prodigy being sampled on the hook.
CORNER STORE
This was off of the last Pap CD too. That Diplomat beat off of their latest CD. I hate the way Papoose pronounces some of his words. Pure = PYOOR.
GUN SHY
This is unbelievably slow. When Pap has to pause this long between words, I usually dislike it.
GET THAT CAMERA OUTTA MY FACE
Like I said, apparently they have a problem with these DVD guys. This is off of Jeezy's Trap or Die beat. He didn't rip this as hard as I thought he would have.
SHOOT EM DOWN
This is off of the "Go Crazy" beat. He does better on this one than the last, but he still didn't rip it like he was supposed to.
STRANGER
This is off of the Hustla's Ambition beat. I really don't like the Gunblast sound effects Pap is doing with his mouth.
GANGSTA'S RECOGNIZE
This was off of Bootleggers nightmare. Features Jim Jones, and he doesn't do a bad job either.
WHO YOU KNOW
This one features Mike Jones. This just didn't match. Mike Jones would never rap over a beat like this.
HUSTLE HARD
This is straight fire, from the Mixtape Murder mixtape. This is the first (and only) Papoose song I've ever heard on the radio. It was on a syndacated Green Lantern mix session on clear channel one day. 50 Cent being sampled on the hook, and GL produced this one too. Pap comes with fire PUNS on this one. Not metaphors, but puns.
BONNIE N CLYDE
Staygettin is a nice producer. He did some shit for Cam'ron that was straight fire. Remy Ma starting this shit off, and she's doing a good job. Pap finished it off. I think they got something going on.
DO OR DIE
This was off of the last two Pap mixtapes. Featuring Memph Bleek.
IN THE BUSHES
This was off the last one too, featuring Ghostface on the hook. This is hot.
HOLD THE BOROUGH DOWN
Pap's weedcarriers.
RIDING SHOTGUN
Featuring Pall Willigan on this one. This is okay, its a bit iffy, but its cool I guess. I hate the line about farting weed smoke.
BLACK GIRL LOST
This was off of the soon to be classic Nas mixtape from awhile back. I hate the hook, but overall this is hot.
MOTHER NATURE
Featuring Razah. I really didn't like this before either. Its about Hurricane Katrina.
DEDICATION TO JUSTO
This is over Nas and Quan's "Moment of Silence". Its a dedication to Justo, founder of the Mixtape Awards. R.I.P.
MONOPOLY
This is off of Mario's "Let Me Love You" beat, looped up. Its cool, Pap's being socially aware on this track.
SHARADES
This is where Pap is talking about the Hip Hop cops plotting on Rap stars. This supposedly had NY radio locked up for awhile.
CHESS
This is another interesting concept Pap had. This has to have the most ever subliminals in one record.
I'LL DO IT FOR YOU
Featuring Sonja Blade, a rapper out of Brooklyn. I like the beat on this one. This is some R&B type shit. I forgot what song this is sampled off of, I can't think of the name of the group. Anyway, I would like to hear more of Pap on this Babyface soundin' shit.
OUTRO
Get that camera out of Kay Slay's face!
COMMENTS: This is a great mixtape, especially compared to that last atrocity. Pap is showing his versatility on this mixtape. Got hot new joints, and classic old joints he's made. Only thing is, since this is a best of, his tracks with Jae Millz and Murda Mook shoulda definitely been on here, but I guess they were omitted because of Paul Wall and Mike Jones' more popular names. Still, you need to cop this shit. I gotta go to work.
BEST TRACKS: Born in NYC, License to Kill, Hustle Hard, In The Bushes, I'll Do It For You

You say it's "a great mixtape" but you don't like most of the songs on it? Haven't heard most of it yet myself, just a little confused on the quality level... Should I get it or not?
Also, on your album reviews it would be nice to see some sample lyrics to back up your statements of hot or wack lines. Good lookin out though!

Um, gotta go back and count. There were three songs I said I hated. Other songs I said I may have hated a line, or a sound effect.

I was at a show in the city once where Papoose beat the fuck out of some cats and then got on stage and did his set. It was pretty awesome.
and "sharades" did have NYC radio locked for a while.. I remember that cat from the late 90's when he dropped "alphabetic slaughter" and got some burn off it, back when rap was pay-attention-toable.

Locked up is an understatement. Sharades is all anyone would play forever. It got annoying, but I liked the track.

Pap's voice starts to shit me after a while. I can never make it all the way through his tapes...the first three songs are good though.
